How do oven cleaners usually invoice?

Oven cleaners work to a fixed price list by appliance type, from a single oven at around £60 to a range cooker at £150 or more, and are paid on the day by card or bank transfer. Extras such as hobs, extractor filters and replacement bulbs or seals are listed as separate lines. Letting agents and end of tenancy firms send repeat work on 14 day terms.

Oven cleaners in this example are paid on receipt. Hourly rates run from £25 to £40.

What should a oven cleaner put on an invoice?

Beyond the legal basics, oven cleaners should:

  • Price by appliance type and state the type on the invoice: single, double, range, Aga.
  • List hob, extractor and microwave as separate lines so the customer sees what was included.
  • Show replacement parts such as bulbs and seals at the price paid plus a small margin.
  • For agents, include the property address and the key handover arrangement.

Every UK invoice, whatever the trade, must also show:

  • a unique, sequential invoice number
  • your business name and address (and company number if you trade as a limited company)
  • the client’s name and address
  • the invoice date and, for VAT invoices, the date of supply if different
  • a clear description of each item of work or goods
  • the amount due and when it must be paid
  • your VAT number, the VAT rate per line and the VAT total, if you are VAT registered

Do oven cleaners charge VAT?

You only charge VAT once registered, which is compulsory when taxable turnover passes £90,000 in any rolling 12 months. Below that, show no VAT line and no VAT number. Once registered, this work is standard rated at 20%.

On the Flat Rate Scheme the sector for oven cleaners is usually “Any other activity not listed elsewhere” at 12% of VAT-inclusive turnover, with a 1% discount in the first year of registration. If you spend little on goods you may be a limited cost trader and have to use 16.5% instead. The scheme suits businesses with few VAT-able costs; check it against the standard method with the VAT calculator before joining.

Frequently asked questions

How much should an oven cleaner charge?
Typical 2026 prices are £55 to £75 for a single oven, £75 to £100 for a double, and £130 to £200 for a range cooker, with a hob at £20 to £40 extra. Aga and Rayburn cleans are priced separately because they need to be cool. Most customers pay on the day.
Do oven cleaners charge VAT?
A sole trader oven cleaner doing four or five ovens a day sits below the £90,000 threshold and charges no VAT. Franchise operators with vans and staff may be registered and add 20%. If you are not registered, do not print a VAT rate on the invoice.
Should I invoice before or after the clean?
After, on the day, with payment taken before you leave. The invoice doubles as a receipt. For agents and businesses, send it by email the same day with the property address on it and allow 14 days.
